CTE Success Story: Cape May County Technical School graduate credits his hands-on education for preparing him to succeed in the workforce.

Vincent Travascio enjoys working in Building Automation, a specialty within the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) field. Employed by Trane Heating & Air Conditioning,he applies his skills at different job sites, including his alma mater, Cape May County Technical School (Cape Tech).

Travascio, of Wildwood, was involved with designing the HVAC system for Cape Tech’s new addition, and he was thrilled to assist the school that helped him discover his career passion.Travascio graduated from the HVAC program at Cape Tech in 2018.

“The education I received at Cape Tech was imperative for my career growth,” said Travascio. “This school is unique because I was able to receive an education in the main subjects, like English, History, Science and Mathematics, while also learning a career specialty. This is important because it forces the student to think about their school career and their career beyond schooling.”

After graduating from Cape Tech, Travascio attended the Pennsylvania College of Technology and earned a Bachelor of Science in Building Automation. Building Automation is the automatic centralized control of HVAC systems within large commercial buildings. Travascio is excited to be a part of this growing career field.

While at college, Travascio completed a summer internship in Building Automation with Trane. By the fall of his senior year, he received a full-time job offer from the company. Travascio has been with Trane for almost three years and is working on large projects while continuing to learn on job sites. The company has room for advancement and Travascio is looking forward to what the future holds.

Travascio said the HVAC program at Cape Tech was impactful because of a knowledgeable instructor who gave thorough but enjoyable lessons and a curriculum centered around hands-on learning.

“The hands-on opportunities at Cape Tech were especially important to me because they helped me best retain information,” said Travascio. “The preparation I received at Cape Tech allowed me to walk into a college HVAC program knowing most of the topics covered and demonstrated. If not for my education at Cape Tech, my life may have turned out completely different.”
