Cape May Court House, NJ – Students from Cape May County Special Services’ (CMCSSD) and Cape May County Technical School District (Cape Tech) participated in a unique experience organized by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), which featured an assembly by the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Bomb Unit and their very special four-legged partners.

During the presentation held at Cape May County Special Services, Spot and Tank, the NJSP bomb squad’s robotic dogs, demonstrated their capabilities by pulling a student in a wagon, stacking cones, opening a door and carrying a ball. Cape Tech students from the Pre-Engineering, Law and Public Safety, and Information Technology programs also had the opportunity to ask the bomb squad questions about the dogs afterwards.

“The students were so interested in all of the amazing tricks the dogs could do,” said Valerie Bowers, Director of Ocean Academy and Cape May County High School. “A special thanks to the State Police and the NJDOE School Safety Team for providing this innovative experience to our students.”

The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and the NJDOE School Safety Team also participated in the presentation and discussion. “These partnerships are so important for our students from both districts,” said Cape Tech and CMCSSD Superintendent Jamie Moscony. “We’re able to provide firsthand experiences, real life examples and engaging opportunities to help guide our Cape Tech students into a career that they can be excited about. And our special services students enjoyed engaging with this new technology and having positive interactions with local law enforcement.”
