AHERA Notifications
United States federal law enacted in 1986 that requires public and non-profit private schools to inspect for asbestos-containing materials, develop management plans, and take action to reduce potential hazards. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforces these regulations, mandating that schools assign a designated person, conduct periodic surveillances, and provide training to maintenance and custodial staff about asbestos hazards.
