Cape Tech recipient of inaugural Cape Atlantic League sportsmanship award

Cape May Court House, NJ – Cape May County Technical High School’s (Cape Tech)Athletic Department was recently named the recipient of the inaugural Cape Atlantic League (CAL) Sportsmanship Award. The award recognizes one program in the league that represents exemplary team sportsmanship, respect for officials, leadership/control of participants, regard for facility/equipment, and spirits/rules of the game.
To be eligible for the CAL Sportsmanship Award, athletic directors and coaches within the league must nominate a school. The nominations for the 2024-25 season were then shared directly with the league.
“This award means so much to us,” said Cape Tech Athletic Director David Smith. “It means that despite the outcome of a contest, Cape May Tech Athletics has been recognized for doing things the right way - echoing sportsmanship in all facets of our program. Success on the field is great, but this award shows that we are promoting an environment that will teach our athletes more than just how to play a game.”
Smith is proud of Cape Tech’s student athletes, and said they show perseverance, disciple, respect and leadership every day. The students regularly balance high school studies with learning a trade and playing a sport. Many of these students are multi-sport athletes and manage this rigorous schedule throughout the entire school year.
“When working with high school student athletes, you are not just training for a sport, but training for life,” said Smith. “So many lessons are learned through sports that will help these young men and women through life, the good times and bad, as they look to grow and evolve. If you can take the court or field against an opponent, in front of a packed crowd, with a game on the line, and work through it with your teammates, you can do anything.”
In addition to the CAL Sportsmanship Award, Cape Tech’s Athletics Department won the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Sportsmanship Award last year. This award acknowledges schools that display outstanding sportsmanship and ethical behavior in their athletic programs.
“We are very proud of our student athletes and athletics department for earning the inaugural CAL Sportsmanship Award,” said Cape Tech Superintendent Jamie Moscony. “Our students strive to be their best academically, professionally and athletically everyday, and we are honored they have been recognized for their remarkable efforts.”
