Cosmetology

The Cosmetology program follows the guidelines set by the state for cosmetology licensure—1000 hours of instruction/skill development. Students take the NJ Licensed Cosmetologist certification for licensing at the end of this three year program. Students will also develop skills centered upon safety issues and practices, professional image, sanitation, hair and scalp care, hair shaping and barbering skills, wet hairstyling, thermal styling, chemical applications, manicuring, pedicuring, nail technician services, skincare and facials, make-up application, superfluous hair removal, salon business, and related sciences. Within this program, students participate in hands-on experiences by opening the salon to external customers. This clinical practice provides opportunities for students to prepare for their certification exam. 


Students Will

  • Attain their NJ Licensed Cosmetology certification pending board exam results.
  • Learn about the hair and scalp and basic chemistry for the care of hair, skin and nails.
  • Learn business regulations and practical skills for successful completion in attaining Cosmetology board certification.
  • Learn different textures and styles of hair types.
  • Work in a state of the art hair salon equipped with the tools and techniques needed to be successful in cosmetology.
  • Prepare for direct entry into the workforce while also preparing them for further certifications in their future careers.
  • Explore a wide range of job opportunities within the field through guest speakers, field trips and other interactions with industry professionals.
