Parent Rights in Special Education - October 7, 2021
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
This presentation provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities as parents of children with special needs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the New Jersey Code, and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act.

Inclusion and Support Services Monthly Speaker Series: What Parents Need to Know about S3434 - October 13, 2021
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
This workshop will provide an overview of key details about the bill for families of students with an IEP, especially those who turned 21 recently and those who will turn 21 during the 2021-22 school year. We will also address compensatory education services and share key points related to virtual vs. home instruction.

IEP 1: Essential Components - October 14, 2021
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
This workshop provides participants with a review of the essential components of an Individualized Education Plan. As a result of this workshop, participants will better understand the IEP document and the parent's role in the development of an IEP. 

Statewide Special Education Parent Leadership Virtual Roundtable - two dates!
This is an opportunity for parents, Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) members, school and district staff, and community members to come together to network and exchange tips, tools, and
strategies to build collaborative partnerships that benefit students and their families. Simultaneous interpretation into Spanish is available. See attached flyers.

Although not happening until November 2021, by popular demand, START-Engaging Parents of Students with Disabilities (START-EPSD) Project presents the Starting and Running an Effective Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) workshop - November 1, 2021
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
This workshop is designed to provide an overview of the role and function of a Special Education Parent Advisory Group and discuss best practices, tip, and strategies for effective implementation of SEPAGs or other parent groups. 

Special Education Parent Advisory Groups are required for all school districts in New Jersey. The purpose of these groups is to provide opportunities for parents and community members to offer input to their districts on critical issues relating to student with disabilities.
